Veterans' House Canada

Veterans’ House Canada has launched the Helping Homeless Veterans Campaign. Our goal is to build 3 more permanent residences, with supportive programs, to assist a significant proportion of the 3,000 – 5,000 homeless veterans in need across Canada. The first building opened on February 1st, 2021 in Ottawa. Based on need and local support, we secured land in Edmonton. More cities under consideration include Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria.

Veterans’ House Canada is breaking new ground with Canada’s first permanent, supportive housing model dedicated exclusively to veterans experiencing homelessness. Opening its flagship Andy Carswell Building in Ottawa in 2021, the organization offers 40 bachelor units in a veterans-only setting, supported by on-site mental health services, peer mentoring, employment help, addiction treatment, and life skills workshops.

Their wraparound “housing-first” approach includes community gardening, conflict resolution, art therapy, service-dog training, and veteran-led peer barbecues in a setting designed to foster camaraderie and healing.

With ambitious expansion underway, including a new Edmonton Veterans’ House launch planned for Fall 2025, Veterans’ House Canada is scaling its supportive model nationally.

Backed by federal funding and partnerships with Veterans Affairs Canada and local ministries, this veteran-founded nonprofit demonstrates what mission-driven action can achieve for homeless veterans. Featuring Veterans’ House Canada in our Support Our Heroes Directory highlights a leading example of veterans helping veterans—through dignified housing, real support, and community-first care.
