The Perth East Fire Department The Perth East Fire Department is made up of three stations and a roster of 68 firefighters.
The Perth East Fire Department has 3 stations – Milverton, Sebringville and Shakespeare.
Perth East Fire Department – Leading from the Front
The Perth East Fire Department is a great example of what community service looks like in action. With three stations — in Milverton, Shakespeare, and Sebringville — and a team of 68 paid-on-call firefighters, they protect more than 12,000 residents across 715 square kilometres.
We’ve had the privilege of working with Chief Bill Hunter and his team on Peer Support training, and it’s easy to see why this department stands out. They care deeply about their people and their community, and that comes through in everything they do.
Taking Care of Each Other
Chief Hunter is a forward-thinking leader who believes in looking after his firefighters the same way they look after others. His message is simple: you can’t take care of your community if you don’t take care of yourself and your crew.
The Peer Support program helps members recognize stress, talk openly, and support one another. It’s about building trust and resilience so that no one faces tough times alone.
Proud to Serve
The Perth East firefighters are paid-on-call, but they volunteer a lot of their time for training, prevention, and community events. Their dedication shows what the spirit of volunteerism really means — neighbors helping neighbors, day or night.
They’re a strong civic example for other departments and for anyone who wants to make a difference close to home.
Chief Hunter’s Leadership
Chief Hunter leads from the front. He doesn’t just talk about teamwork — he lives it. Whether it’s on a call, at training, or talking about firefighter wellness, he’s always focused on improving the department and supporting his people.
He’s known for being open, practical, and always looking ahead. His approach to leadership has helped make Perth East a progressive, professional, and community-minded fire service.
